How IREP Junk Removal and Resale Are Changing the Game

Inside IREP Resale Austin thrift

Looking for the best way to recycle in Austin while scoring amazing thrift finds? You’re in the right place! IREP Junk Removal and IREP Resale are on a mission to keep reusable goods out of landfills, offering a one-stop shop for recycling, reselling, and reclaiming treasures. Whether you're an eco-conscious shopper, a bargain hunter, or someone looking to offload hard-to-recycle items, we’ve got you covered.

Does the City of Austin Actually Recycle?

Yes! Austin has a strong recycling program, but many items—like plastic bags, Styrofoam, and batteries—aren’t accepted in home bins. That’s where IREP Junk Removal steps in! We take in those tricky recyclables at our South Austin thrift store, saving you a trip to Austin Resource Recovery (ARR), especially if you're not an Austin resident.

Can You Get Money for Recycling in Texas?

Yes and no. Texas doesn’t have a statewide bottle deposit program, but scrap metal, aluminum cans, and other valuable materials can be sold at recycling centers. While we don’t offer direct cash for recyclables, IREP Junk Removal and Resale provide a different kind of reward—store discounts, freebies, and a cleaner planet!

Does Austin Have a Recycling Program?

Absolutely! The city has curbside recycling and composting programs. However, many items aren’t accepted. Instead of scheduling an appointment at ARR, drop off your batteries, Styrofoam, ink cartridges, plastic bags, paint, household chemicals, and more at our thrift store. We make it easy for Austinites and non-residents alike to recycle responsibly.

What is the Recycling Rate in Austin, Texas?

Austin has a goal of reaching zero waste by 2040 and currently boasts a recycling rate of over 42%—but we can do better! In 2024 alone, IREP Junk Removal has recycled over 350 tons of materials, proving that small efforts make a big impact.

The holiday season is a time for joy, connection, and creativity, but it can also be a season of waste.
